Overlooking Minneapolis's Lake of the Isles stands a historic residence that recently underwent a meticulous design-build remodel. While the home's architecture speaks to a bygone era of elegance, its interior was ready for a modern infusion of style and functionality. Our primary focus for this project was the complete transformation of four distinct bathrooms, each designed to honor the home's stately character while delivering bespoke, contemporary amenities. This remodel was not merely an update; it was a curated reinvention that demonstrates how thoughtful design can breathe new life into an architectural masterpiece.
The crown jewel of this project is the expansive Primary Bath, a true sanctuary defined by exceptional craftsmanship. We introduced a striking new barrel vault ceiling that dramatically elevates the space, complemented by a substantial walk-in shower encased in frameless glass. Storage and materiality were paramount: the room features two custom walnut vanities, a practical yet elegant hamper/bench cleverly positioned beneath the window, and a spacious linen closet. The heated floor is a work of art itself—a meticulously laid tile mosaic that grounds the room in sophisticated pattern and texture, ensuring this bathroom serves as a luxurious daily retreat.
Beyond the Primary Suite, the remaining bathrooms each possess their own unique identity. The En-suite Bath was designed with a focus on serene simplicity, featuring large format warm gray tiles that create calm. This neutral backdrop is beautifully contrasted by a warm oak vanity cabinet, distinguished by sophisticated fluted panels that add tactile interest and depth. Conversely, the Hall Bath embraces vibrant warmth; it showcases a handmade-look tile in a rich, warm ochre hue, paired with additional warm white oak cabinetry. The centerpiece is a stunning curved vanity topped with a thick slab of luxurious marble, making a bold, playful statement.
Finally, the Office Bathroom was crafted with a distinctive, masculine aesthetic in mind, perfectly complementing its adjacent workspace. This space makes a strong visual impact with a dramatic palette of dark green and black tile. The sink/console area is anchored by a sharp contrast of polished nickel pedestal legs, offering an industrial-chic counterpoint to the more traditional materials. The final touch—a dynamic, fun wallpaper—elevates the room beyond mere functionality, transforming it into a memorable, stylish powder room that captures the essence of personalized design.
